Persians and Exotics need regular grooming with a firm, but gentle approach to handling. Slicker brushes with metal filaments (like the one pictured below) are excellent for getting rid of unwanted or dead hair; and when necessary, a round tooth metal comb (again see below) is useful for removing undesirable knots. Lay the cat on its side and work slowly down from the head, brushing the coat forward towards the head, a small section at a time. Be sure to brush from the roots to the tips of the coat, otherwise the coat will tangle at the roots. Pay particular attention to the area around the bottom and under the front legs. Turn the cat onto its side and repeat the procedure until you have groomed the tummy, both sides and back. It may take a little while to train your Persian/Exotic kitten to this grooming routine, however it does make things a lot easier when they turn adult.
A regular dusting of talc will help to keep the coat clean and knot free (this should also eliminate the need to bath the cat). Use a good baby powder and not perfumed talc which will irritate the cat’s skin and eyes. Part the coat and powder to the roots taking care not to get powder into the eyes or up the nose, then brush the coat thoroughly. Always be aware of your cats stress levels, if he or she becomes objective, let them calm down and start again...
Miscellaneous:
1) Eyes: using cotton wool and boiled warm water with table
salt in it, clean the cat/kittens eyes adequately then dry them
with either dry cotton wool or tissue (as and when required).
2) Worming: When worming our cats/kittens we use ''Shirley's Worming Cream'' which can be purchased at most local ''Pets
at Home'' stores.
3) Finally, don't forget that were always on the end of the
phone if your worried about anything!!!
